Hands-On Introduction to PC Repair
Course Description
This course is a hands-on introduction to PC architecture and hardware functionality. Students have the opportunity to develop basic PC repair, upgrade & maintenance skills that lead to self sufficiency and are foundational for more advanced IT training.
This course is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to develop basic PC repair, upgrade and maintenance skills, including office workers, PC enthusiasts, and those considering an Information Technology (IT) career.
After completing this course, students will be able to :
- Describe digital logic components
- Assemble and disassemble an IBM compatible PC
- Identify the internal & external system components
- Describe the functions of all PC subassemblies
- Identify & upgrade system firmware (BIOS)
- Identify & install different types of memory
- Identify different types of disk drives & file system
- Install partition and format a hard disk drive
- Explain how the boot-up process works
- Make hard and floppy disk drives bootable
- Resolve hardware conflicts
- Install Microsoft Windows Operating Systems
- Install, configure & test modems, soundcards & DVD-ROMs
- Identify, locate, download and install hardware drivers
Prerequisites
Experienced PC users familiar with Microsoft Windows Operating System.
