Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician - MCDST Preparation Course

Course Description
This instructor led course provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to troubleshoot basic problems end users face using Microsoft Windows XP Professional in an Active Directory network environment. MCDST Prep is designed to provide an overview of operating system concepts and how to troubleshoot Windows XP. The curriculum will assist students in preparing for the Microsoft Exam 70-271: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP and Exam 70-272 Supporting Users and Troubleshooting Desktop Applications on a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System. Upon passing either of these exams, the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) designation is also awarded.

This course is an excellent choice for A+ Certified technicians, and those seeking to advance their technology careers including computer service technicians, technical help desk staff, or office support staff.

After completing this course, students will be able to :

  • Perform and troubleshoot an installation of the Windows XP operating system
  • Complete post installation configurations (user configuration, apply service packs, etc.)
  • Understand issues related to upgrading from a previous version of Windows
  • Monitor and analyze system performance
  • Manage, and troubleshoot access to files and folders
  • Configure and troubleshoot the following:
    • All types of hardware devices and drivers
    • System startup and user logon problems
    • Connections to local and network print devices
    • Network protocols and services
    • Security settings and local security policy
    • Local user and group accounts
    • Windows Firewall (ICF) settings
    • Remote connections and the TCP/IP protocol
    • Most routine issues related to Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Outlook Express
    • End user systems using Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance

Prerequisites
Must have basic experience using Microsoft Windows Operating system and Microsoft Office applications, Windows accessories, and Internet Explorer as well as hardware components and their functions.

The student kit includes two comprehensive textbooks, two practice test CDs, and other necessary materials for this class.
