All shock testing has been completed and the Navy has been provided with the test results from Hi-Test Laboratories. A Fleet Use decision is now pending by the fastener Life Cycle Manager. Recent correspondence from PEO Ships indicates that the expansion bolts will be used in DDG-1000 construction.

|
Problem:
Currently use Fitted Bolts to join shaft couplings and mount equipment. It requires a very expensive, time consuming process to properly manufacture and install the bolts.
Solution:
A new type of expansion bolt to replace fitted bolts has been commercially introduced. It is more cost effective to use during the initial installation and considerably more effective on subsequent replacement actions.
Fleet Impact:
Significant savings in new construction (used on all foundation-mounted equipment and large shaft couplings). Greatly eases the removal of equipment for overhaul and repair.
Applications:
All non-nuclear (currently) surface ships.
