| The Navy has issued a change notice to the NSTM authorizing the use of Superbolt in various certain applications. Source control drawings are complete. NSN's have been assigned. |
Problem:
| Many shipboard applications require high-torque nuts that are easy to install and remove. Superbolt was desired but was not shock qualified for fleet use.
Solution:
| MTTC conducted shock testing to highest levels. Superbolt out-performed existing unitary nuts. Results extended to other tensioner materials and sizes.
Fleet Impact:
| Sailors and yard workers are now able to perform much more quickly with smaller common tools. This device is most efficiently used in confined locations with tight tolerance and clearances. |
