The Navy has issued a change notice to the NSTM authorizing the use of Superbolt in various certain applications. Source control drawings are complete. NSN's have been assigned.
Problem:
Many shipboard applications require high-torque nuts that are easy to install and remove. Superbolt was desired but was not shock qualified for fleet use.

Solution:
MTTC conducted shock testing to highest levels. Superbolt out-performed existing unitary nuts. Results extended to other tensioner materials and sizes.

Fleet Impact:
Sailors and yard workers are now able to perform much more quickly with smaller common tools. This device is most efficiently used in confined locations with tight tolerance and clearances.
Fleet Approval

Applications:
  • Submarine Stern Tube Seals
  • CVN Reboiler Foundation Bolts
  • Vertical Launch Foundation Bolts
  • Many Others
  • Sub Sonar Domes expected soon
