The RMCs, U.S. Coast Guard, and the manufacturer have been certified. In the past two years, every system in the fleet has been modified.
Problem:
Failure of a small part in the ammunition handling system can lead to a complete catastrophic system failure. This failure mode is a leading contributor to the system unreliability.

Solution:
MTTC, working with the Navy and equipment manufacturer (General Dynamics), will analyze the root cause, redesign the part and produce several concept parts for system tests.

Fleet Impact:
It is estimated that correction of this problem will prevent at least 10 system failures per year. Each failure requires a large number of parts and expenditure time to correct.

Applications:
320 CIWS systems in U.S.Navy Foreign Military Sales Customers.
